Celebrate this February 14th with an edible recipe

Valentine’s Day is almost here, which calls for chocolate and romantic dinners. If you and your special someone love cannabis and cooking, give an edible recipe from Chef Leighton Murdock a try. While all his dishes are tasty, for this February 14th, he suggests making his Honey Garlic Shrimp. The recipe features products from his new line of cannabis infused seasonings. They’re the perfect touch for any edible recipe. We had the opportunity to sit down with Chef Leighton, founder of Aroma Culinary. He told us everything you need to know about his infused dinners and Aroma Culinary’s new seasonings.

What inspires you to make an edible recipe?

I’m a trained chef and deeply interested in enhancing flavor profiles with an additional payoff—a bodily high.

What was the first edible recipe you made?

Like many people, the first edible recipe I made was an infused brownie.

Tell us all about your new line of cannabis seasonings?

Aroma Culinary manufactures and distributes the world’s finest hemp-derived CBD infused culinary condiments. Those include hot sauce, barbecue sauce, extra virgin olive oil, honey, salt, and pepper. We use only the best ingredients and CBD extracted from select hemp cultivated in the USA.

Where did the idea to create cannabis seasonings come from?

Cooking has always been a passion of mine. Early in my career as a chef, I was hosting dinner parties. Oftentimes, the guests didn’t know each other but would bond over different things. Things like family recipes, their love for music––inspired by the curated playlist we’d have––and other current topics. But there was something that would happen around the second course. That was when the wine and cocktails started to set in. The sound of laughter and conversation would drown out the music. At the same time, I was learning a lot about the power of cannabis. I quickly decided to swap alcohol for cannabis. And here we are today.

What kind of feeling can people expect when they use Aroma Culinary seasonings in their edible recipe?

They can expect to feel elated. Honestly, I personally feel that Aroma Culinary seasonings and spices are a chef’s kiss. The perfect addition for an aromatic and well-balanced high after enjoying a wonderful meal.

Which 1 of your new line of cannabis seasonings is your favorite?

My favorite is our hot sauce. You can put that on anything. And it pairs well with your favorite edible recipe.

How should your cannabis seasonings and condiments be used? Any differently than regular seasonings?

They’re great finishers. Most chefs don’t cook with heavy seasonings. We’re trained to top meals with them. I recommend using the seasonings as a light to moderate dusting on your meal.

Do you have advice for anyone who wants to make an edible recipe for the first time?

My advice to anyone looking to make an edible recipe is to consult a professional first—even if it’s just online. It’s important to consider dosage and flavor profiles. A novice approach can be disappointing.

Which came first, your love for the culinary arts or your interest in cannabis?

Cooking came first. I’ve always enjoyed cooking. I find it relaxing.

What’s the best part of being a cannabis chef?

To me, the best part is being able to control people’s high.

Without giving away your “secret sauce”, what’s your technique for controlling your guests’ high?

It’s all about the dosage and balance. You want to make sure they can get through 3 courses without getting too high too quickly. I make sure to take them on a gradual journey, ensuring by the time they get to dessert they are at the perfect height.

Who are 3 other cannabis chefs we should know about?

The 3 that I pay attention to are @thechefnikki, @the_herbal_chef, and @the_nomadcook.

What edible recipe would you suggest for a romantic evening this Valentine’s Day?

I’d suggest my Honey Garlic Shrimp.

honey garlic shrimp INGREDIENTS

1-2 lb Shrimp

2 tablespoons Aroma olive oil more if needed

1/4 cup corn starch

2 teaspoon garlic minced

1/2 teaspoon ginger grated

4 tablespoon Aroma honey

2 tablespoon soy sauce

1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper (more if you like it hot)

green onion for garnish chopped

honey garlic shrimp instructions

In a mixing boil, combine 2 teaspoon of garlic, 1/2 teaspoon of ginger, 4 tablespoons of honey, 2 tablespoons of soy sauce. Mix them together and then set them aside.

Coat each shrimp in cornstarch. Pour Aroma olive oil into a big skillet over medium/high heat. A cast iron skillet works best for this recipe. But, if you don’t have one, it’s okay to use a regular skillet.

Add the shrimp and cook for 1 minute on each side, or until shrimp is cooked through. If you have a small skillet, it’ll be best to work in batches. Once it’s cooked, remove the shrimp from the skillet and put in on a plate.

Then, add the sauce into the skillet and bring it to boil. Let it simmer for about 2 minutes. Return the shrimp back to the skillet, coat it with the sauce, and remove it from the heat.

Garnish with crushed pepper flakes and green onion or sliced chilis
