Cannabis Edible Recipes to Cook For Your Micro-Thanksgiving
As with everything, 2020 is bringing most of us a new kind of Thanksgiving. With big family gatherings nixed by the pandemic, the silver lining this year is that you don’t have to worry about hiding in the cannabis closet from judgey Uncle Pete. For all its faults, 2020 is finally the year to fully embrace cannabis at your Thanksgiving table.
Thanksgiving is, after all, the ultimate sharing holiday, when we gather around the table to indulge and count our blessings. There isn’t a holiday that meshes better with cannabis culture and its traditions of sharing.
This year, instead of just enhancing your Thanksgiving favorites with a smoke sesh or an edible on the side, try these infused recipes for our Turkey Day specialities. Choose from cranberry sauce, sweet potato pecan pie, or honey glazed turkey. Or better yet, blissfully enjoy them all. It’s 2020—you deserve it.
Holly’s Cannabis-Infused Savory Cranberry Sauce
If you still think of cranberry sauce as a can-shaped jelly that you have to slice, you’re in for a big surprise. This delicious infused recipe is just the right amount of tart and sweet, with fall spices that are usually reserved for desserts. Spoon it over turkey and stuffing, slather it on toast, or just shovel it directly into your mouth.
Infused Cranberry Sauce Ingredients
1 cup ruby Port
2 cinnamon sticks
6 ounces dried cranberries
¼ tsp ground allspice
1 tsp ground nutmeg
1 bag 12-ounce fresh cranberries
¾ cup water
¼ cup sugar (or for a healthier sauce, xylitol or erythritol)
1-2 ml Theory Extra Strength THC/CBD Tincture in an organic coconut oil base
Cannabis Infused Cranberry Sauce Instructions
Combine ruby Port and cinnamon sticks in a medium saucepan. Bring to boil over high heat. Reduce to medium heat and simmer for 3 minutes. Then, add dried cranberries, allspice, and nutmeg. Stir until well mixed and simmer until the cranberries start to soften. Next, add fresh cranberries, water, and sugar/sweetener. Bring mixture to a boil over high heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves. Reduce heat to low and simmer, stirring often, until berries collapse and sauce thickens—about 20-30 minutes. (If you double the recipe, extend the simmering time as well.) When sauce has thickened to a jam-like consistency, remove from heat and discard cinnamon sticks.
Infusing Edible Recipes
If desired, reserve half of the sauce in a separate serving dish for the kids or anyone who doesn’t want to imbibe. Transfer the remaining half of sauce to a serving dish. Before it cools, stir in 1 ml of tincture so it’s well mixed. If infusing the entire batch, stir in 2 ml. Can be made up to 3 days ahead. We prefer this sauce served warm, but you can serve it chilled, according to taste. Garnish with cinnamon sticks. Makes 8 servings total, with approximately 5mg of THC per infused serving.
DOSING EDIBLE RECIPES
We like infusing this sauce with Theory Wellness’ Extra Strength hybrid THC/CBD tincture. The organic coconut oil base blends perfectly into the cranberry sauce. At a bottle strength of 515.94mg of THC and 35.35mg of CBD, we use less than most tinctures to make a tastier but still effective sauce. This tincture also works much faster than most edible recipes—with almost immediate onset in about 10 minutes. So it’s a great way to enhance your enjoyment of Thanksgiving dinner itself. It also creates the perfect Thanksgiving vibe—calm, happy, and relaxed without putting you completely to sleep.
Kristina’s Infused Famous Sweet Potato Pecan Pie
This pie is a Thanksgiving staple in the Adduci household. 10 years and running, this pie is such a favorite that there’s never any leftovers. We’re fans of using Sweet Grass Cannabutter, but if you don’t have access to buying infused butter, we love Leafly’s recipe. Feel free to also infuse the pecan topping, too, if you’re feeling feisty.
Infused Sweet Potato Pecan Pie Ingredients
1 (40-oz) can cut sweet potatoes in light syrup
4 tablespoons room temp cannabutter (40mg of THC)
7 ounces sweetened condensed milk
2 eggs
1 tsp pumpkin pie spice
1 tsp pure vanilla extract
1 lemon, zest grated
½ lemon, juiced
1 tsp maldon salt
2 tbs heavy cream
1 frozen deep-dish pie crust shell
1 cup raw pecans
1 cup heavy cream
½ cup brown sugar
Pinch of salt
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
Drain sweet potatoes and place them in a food processor. Add the rest of the ingredients, except heavy cream, to the food processor. Mix until smooth. Brush heavy cream on the frozen pie shell. Pour sweet potato mixture into pie crust, making sure it’s smooth on top.
In a saucepan, place all the pecans, ½ cup of heavy cream, ½ cup of brown sugar. Bring it to a boil, reduce and stir for about 5-7 minutes. Remove it from heat, and let it cool slightly. If you want a double dose, you can infuse the pecan topping as well by adding your favorite tincture. We’re partial to Chemistry’s Tinctures.
Pour pecan mixture on top of the pie sprinkle with a dash of salt, and place on a baking sheet and bake for 45 minutes. Remove from the oven and allow to cool in the refrigerator for several hours—even better let it cool overnight.
Makes 8 servings with approximately 5mg of THC per serving.
Kristina’s CBD Infused Honey Glazed Turkey Breast
We all know that ingesting turkey knocks you out, thanks to the tryptophan in it. So adding CBD to this recipe will have you feeling like a baby in a warm bubble bath. Our favorite CBD-infused honey is Potli’s Raw Honey, but we also love this recipe.
Turkey Breast Ingredients
1 turkey breast 4-6 lbs
½ cup butter softened
1 tablespoon fresh thyme
1 tspn salt
1 tspn coarse fresh ground black pepper
CBD Infused Honey Glaze Ingredients
½ cup of infused CBD honey, we use Potli’s Premium CBD Raw Honey
2 tbsn maple syrup
1 tbsn whole grain Mustard
½ teaspoon onion Salt
½ teaspoon garlic powder
Preheat the oven to 325 degrees Fahrenheit. Place the turkey breast in a large roasting pan and pat dry with paper towels.
Combine the butter, thyme, salt, and pepper in a small bowl. Lift the skin from the turkey breast and spread butter inside and then all over the breast. Mix the honey, maple syrup, mustard, onion salt, and garlic powder together in a small bowl. Lay it on thick and coat the turkey. Pop in the oven and roast for 1 hour and 30 minutes, continuing to baste every 30 minutes.
Let rest for 20 minutes before serving. This dish has approximately 80mg of CBD, so you’ll definitely be on the couch after this dish—right where you want to be as you’re counting the blessings that this very strange year has offered you.
